[post delayed, per usual]
I just finished a fundraiser show hosted by Master Pancake Theater. Tonight’s show was an encore of a Choose Your Own Pancake that aired on Twitch in 2022. Rachel pitched The Core. It’s a fabulous cast, but a terrible movie. It also didn’t break even at the box office, losing about $11 million.
Choose Your Own Pancake is an interesting format. Fans, known as Fancakes, pitch a movie idea. The audience selects one, and the comics riff the movie right then and there, whether they have seen it or not. The 2022 Riff was incredible. It felt rehearsed (in a good way) and flowed very well. Bad movies work very well in this format, so The Core was perfect.
John hosted Frank & Trace “The Mads”, Owen, and Ralphie for the riff. And tonight, we had a nice long visit with Rachel before the show started. Chat was also on fire, which is pretty standard. It was a very entertaining evening.
About 350 of us Fancakes watched three acts (pre-show, show, and wrap-up) and raised $7250 for Minnesota causes, including the Go Fund Me for Alex Pretti, where 42,000 people have donated over $1.7 million. The campaign pledges to route extra money to Immigrant Defense Project. Master Pancake Theater also included Immigrant Defense Project and another charity and will divide the $7250 in three.
