Day 61 – new city day
July 27 (Sun) – to Dijon
- Yay for our 12pm checkout so we could sleep in until 11am, even on a travel day.
- We packed, made and ate a quick breakfast in our hotel lobby, and hung out there until it was time to leave.
- This was also the day of the women’s fútbol championships: Spain v England. And it would happen in the rain.
- At our train’s platform, there was a gross guy with bad hygiene at the platform. Every time we moved over to be further from him, he moved over too. I’ll spare you all what he was doing. Thankfully, he was in another car. People like him are probably how I ended up sick.
- And then, we had our usual crazy train people with too much luggage and too many kids.
- I was sooooo very happy to say, “Switzerland, Switzerland, Switzerland, France!”
- The train made it up to 305kph, almost 190mph.
- The walk from the train to our hotel was quite short and easy.
- He found Chicken Street for us for dinner.
- Our hotel room was very hot overnight at 26ºC/79ºF.
Day 62 – Dijon
July 28 (Mon) – moving day
- He talked with front desk and secured us a different room. It was much much cooler and had a working AirCon.
- He then got us breakfast to start our day, phồ for me. Next door to that, he found vindaloo for him.
- We used the time for me to rest and for him to catch up on sleep.
- He left me to sleep and then went for a walk around. He found the Dijon river promenade and then brought back Cokes, cookies, and donuts.
- After a siesta, he hunted for ramen chicken katsu style for us for dinner.
Day 63 – Dijon
July 29 (Tue) –
- For brunch, he found us burgers at our second choice since our first wasn’t really open.
- We also decided to stay another night so I could recover more before a travel day. I was just too tired to find anything interesting.
- While I rested, he went for a walk around town and found: Porte Guillaume, Place de la Libération, Église Notre-Dame de Dijon, Owl 8, Minuteur, and Jardin Darcy.
- We had some spicy Indian for dinner. What was odd was that they had beef dishes with Indian spices. Beef Vindaloo was very good.
Day 64 – Dijon
July 30 (Wed) –
- After so many days in one spot and with little adventuring, it was getting difficult to find restaurants close to us. He went to get us fish + chips, but that place does not have take away. He did find us some big ass burgers though.
- He also booked our next leg, skipping a town we were going to hit, and going on to Lyon for a few nights
- On his afternoon walk, he found a tank, a fountain, and some cool buildings along the way. He also brought back some Choco Bigouts, a chocolate chip muffin treat.
- Then, two bizarre charges came through one of our cards that we were pretty sure were not from us. One was a hotel that doesn’t even exist. The other was an Uber in Amsterdam. So, he called our card. They were ours. LOTS of place in Europe have one name on the business and a different name on their credit card processing. The amounts on the “hotel” one don’t match, but the agent thought it was a deposit for part of our stay. The Uber one was our membership for the month. It was the right day of the month, but Amsterdam threw us and the amount isn’t the same as last month, maybe due to the exchange rate. So, we are keeping a close eye on charges, but we get a text for every one, so that is easy to do.
- For dinner, he popped downstairs to the hotel cafe for fish and chips and burger that were both pretty dang good.
