The worst part: playing on a Friday night like a couple of high schools. Who picked this??? Probably the same person who decided they should be the Hokies or that maroon and orange go together.
This game is always our literal nemesis. Usually, we start the season with an “-0” record and then lose to them on an off year. This year was (finally) an exception.
I was pulled back in time to J’s bachelorette party when Miami had a Thursday night game against VaTech. She fully understood that I’d duck out a few times (before smart phones) to check the Hurricanes score. (After all, they had a TV at their reception for the Aggies game.)
For the only time in practically anyone’s memory the refs sided with the ‘Canes in what would have been a Hokies-winning touchdown. They finally saw the irrefutable evidence during the play (a bobbled ball). That has just about never happened.
The second-best part: At our watch party, an alumna who’s an elementary school teacher with 26 students took home 26 green-and-orange pom-poms for her kids…..you know, the ones that are future Hurricanes!
The best part: 38-34 Hurricanes over Hokies.
