Day 23 – Lac Le June to Bridal Falls, British Columbia, Canada
After a frustrating drive (curves and hills and jerks and wind), we found The Campground Asshole® parked in the street of the campground. The guy brought an extra hauling trailer longer than his camping trailer and had all his junk squeezed into the spot; he just didn’t have the decency to park his pickup somewhere else. I laid on the horn. I figured if he was there, he needed to suffer. And if his neighbors didn’t police his garbage parking, they needed to suffer, too. After a few minutes, I eeked the motorhome by him, and as soon as we got into the camping spot, I called the office. After a couple of hours, he still hadn’t moved his big dumb truck, so he called the office and asked, “Do I just call a tow truck myself or is that something you’ll handle?” An authoritative male voice combined with a threat got their attention. Not much later, the truck was moved.
After we got settled into our spot, our friend texted. While they were backing in, she hit a fire hydrant that you can’t see from a car. The damage in minor and it wasn’t even the first or second time her truck had a boo boo, so she’s not upset, but we did wonder why the campground doesn’t have those sight poles on them. Those are usually for snow and this place is closed in the winter, but they know where their spots are and how tight everything is.
Because this place is as hot as balls, our four+some wanted to GTFO of here. We picked a terrible restaurant that had almost no AC and weak, unseasoned food.
After dinner, we decided to go see the Bridal Falls, the town’s namesake. They are pretty, but the very steep hike–especially in sandals because we didn’t know we were doing that–and the abusive people made it a less than good experience.

(and rude people trespassing)

The whole area is muggy and hot, and filled with rudeness. Despite the beauty, we hate it here. We are very happy living in the dry climate of Colorado!
Day 24 – small loop from Bridal Falls
We wanted to explore, but wanted to keep it short since we drove the day before and would drive a lot the next day. Best laid plans, you know. We left Bridal Falls and headed to the town of Harrison Hot Springs. There is a swimming lagoon against a cute town. There are several places to get gelato. The also have one of those inflated adventure parks over the water. (But it was different as everyone had to borrow the wetsuits that had been used by previous customers. It also needed a shuttle raft to get people out to it.) We enjoyed watching the sailboarders zip across the water.
The town has Sasquatch everywhere. BTW, what even is the plural of Sasquatch? I mean, are there multiples of him?

Our scenic drive was not really all that scenic, but it was nice. When we got to the next town, we made another visit to Canadian Tire. Then, while our friend popped into Walmart, I popped into Dollarama. While they aren’t related to Dollar Tree at all, their marketing is eerily similar. With the recent changes at Dollar Tree, I hope they become more like Dollarama with better selection and better products.
He found us a great spot for dinner, an Italian place with a very diverse menu and the best server we’ve had of the whole trip.
We made a quick grocery run and then came back to the campsite at 9:30pm to pack up for a long day tomorrow. See? Best laid plans.
Day 25 – the longest day
We set an early departure of 8am so we’d be sure to make the ferry. Good thing we did. Due to an accident on the highway, we were only about 10 minutes early. But that’s why we planned it the way the we did.

apologies for the dirty windshield
The ferry was fun, as they always are. It had a restaurant, grab-and-go food, and a huge variety of types of seating with grand views of the hazy area. There was even a store where I found a much-needed small baggallini purse.

It’s funny that I mentioned Dollar Tree before. We saw one on the island. They even tried to make it feel more Canadian with a little Maple Leaf like the one in the center of the country’s flag: 🇨🇦.

We were set up by 4:20, which could have been cool. It’s a pretty place right on the water. They have bad/expensive WiFi and we are very separated from our friends, so they are having to pay for that nonsense.
We found a Japanese place for dinner that was great. And on our way we saw a bald eagle. After dinner, he found our four+some a bar to go to. While that was a great place, it didn’t work out for our anxious friends. The server told us about a nearby waterfall, so of course, we had to do that when I have the wrong shoes and don’t even have the camera with me. And this is on top of the fact that we had a crazy-early morning to catch the ferry. Once again, the hike was miserable, and I hate it here. It’s 26ºC/79ºF with 37% humidity. By the time we got back, it was too late to use the adult-only hot tub that this place has.
For the next few days, I have decided to bail out of any un-researched activities. It’s just not worth it. I even re-downloaded Uber so I’d have an escape plan. Guess what the island doesn’t have? They have real taxis though.
Day 26 – bailing out
We awoke to our friends wanting to go go go. I was going to bail out of the whale watching, but it didn’t work for them, either. They did want to do two more hikes. No thanks. (They also ended up stuck in the truck for hours that day despite a travel day the next day).
We looked around for something/anything to do that is short or indoors or well described and found nothing. I cooked a breakfast near-fail, but at least we had some left over Timbits. I decided that I might just drink all day. Even with both ACs cranking, it was warm. Realizing the need a vacation from this vacation, we headed to the pool and hot tub. Later that afternoon, from our rig, I saw another bald eagle.
He took us out for a damn-good dinner. I had seafood mac and cheese that was utterly amazing. After a couple of errands and a little drive back to our campground, he found us a great dive bar. We closed it down at like 10pm. LOL!

Day 27 – One Ring to Lose them All
Our little four+some decided to visit Mt Washington and their little ski resort. It was a beautiful drive and a cute little ski area. We had lunch on their patio and watched zip liners, mountain bikers, and just people milling about.

have big and vibrant hanging baskets

Our friend got judgy at dinner. He and his were fourth/fifth through the door, by a lot. They missed the server asking if we wanted inside or out. With unpredictable weather and without a “locker” of our stuff like extra jackets, I said indoors. As soon as we started walking to our table he appeared and snarked, “Was the patio full?” No dude. You went back to your truck to get your jacket; that’s something you can do. We can be prepared for a day just fine, but we can’t prepare for what we don’t know. I don’t need to plan every minute or every day, but I do want to know where we are going enough that I can wear/bring the right layers, shoes, camera gear, etc.. The spontaneity with no regard for others is getting old. And so is sitting outside without a jacket.
While at dinner, he got nervous in the seat next to me and was digging through his pockets. His wedding ring was missing. He and our friends (and our server) looked all over that area, he also went to the truck, while I called the ski resort. Our friends had a laundry reservation, so we went back to the campground, shuffled cars, and we two beelined it back up the mountain.
We had all agreed that the bathroom trash was the most likely, so he started there while I went into the shop. They had no new information since our drive. There were two trash cans, and by the time I got back to him, he’d been through most of one of them. We finished going through that one and started on the next. We were down to the last 6-ish paper towels when a staff member walked up and asked, “Are you looking for a wedding ring?” It was turned in! There wasn’t a good story, but all was right with the world again.
To celebrate, we rounded out the evening with some hot tub time (and beer).
Day 28 – Jeepin’ Around
The next day, when our friends wanted to do a longer hike (and drive), we went past Elk Falls to a Provincial Park with boat ramp. It was a very pretty spot for a picnic.

When we got back to town, we grabbed dinner on the dock watching tours return and ferries run. My fish & chips was red snapper, and it was amazing. We saw three starfish sunning on rocks not too far below the surface of the water, oyster shells that were clinging to a big rock, and hundreds of minnows.
We then had a low-key night at the rig prepping for a travel day.
How does He always find the good restaurants?!?
Envious of the eagle sightings. Gorgeous pics!
He has the touch, for sure. There weren’t even that many choices, but we got good parking *and* a good table *and* great service at this one. Thanks for the photo love; our phones have Hasselblad cameras, so we get great pics with them.
