Lands we’ve lived on

Posted on 2022-10-102022-12-22 by Elle L

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day!

This neat little site will tell you which peoples lived on the land before you. There are a lot; there are many more than I knew or expected.

My (shitty/little) hometown isn’t in the database yet, but it was land and neighbors for several. E lived in this same area for a while.

  • Wichita
  • Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo)
  • Tawakoni
  • Caddo
  • Choctaw (just north of the state line)

E lived in Tulsa

  • 𐓏𐒰𐓓𐒰𐓓𐒷 𐒼𐓂𐓊𐒻 𐓆𐒻𐒿𐒷 𐓀𐒰^𐓓𐒰^(Osage)
  • O-ga-xpa Ma-zhoⁿ (O-ga-xpa) (Quapaw)
  • Očhéthi Šakówiŋ
  • Muscogee (Oklahoma)
  • Caddo
  • Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo)

He also lived in Kenosha

  • Peoria
  • Bodwéwadmi (Potawatomi)
  • Myaamia
  • Očhéthi Šakówiŋ
  • Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk)
  • Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo)

I went to college in Miami where there were several

  • Seminole
  • Taíno
  • Tequesta
  • Miccosukee (where I volunteered one Spring Break)
  • Mascogo

When we lived in Bryan:

  • Tonkawa
  • Sana

In Austin, there was some overlap:

  • Jumanos
  • Coahuiltecan
  • Nʉmʉnʉʉ Sookobitʉ (Comanche)
  • Ndé Kónitsąąíí Gokíyaa (Lipan Apache)
  • Tonkawa

and now, in Denver

  • Tséstho’e (Cheyenne)
  • Očhéthi Šakówiŋ
  • hinono’eino’ biito’owu’ (Arapaho)
  • Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute)

Liberals only. This personal blog is only for people smart enough to vote liberal. If you vote/think/feel conservative/libertarian, then you are not welcome here. This site has no room for the hate spewed by those groups and anyone who supports them. (Go read a book instead; it's clear that you rarely do. Better yet, go volunteer secularly with a truly impoverished community; learn some humanity.)
