Day 07 – Waterton Lakes National Park
Between breakfast and leaving for the day, we lost power (and since the campground is fed by a pump, water). This place just keeps getting “better” or something.
We did all the driving parts and a little of the other tourist parts of Waterton Lakes National Park. There aren’t as many designated pull-outs as we are used to with US National Parks, so it was a little harder to get photos.
We did a hike through the park’s Red Canyon and up part of a trail. Not far into the trail, we were greeted by a doe coming toward us along the path…until our friend barreled ahead with his dog and scared it off “because it’s fun”. Read the room, dude.
When we got back, he was doing a little routine maintenance and found a problem with our rig. We are doing what we can to manage it. Fingers crossed we can handle this and won’t need to miss part of our trip to get something fixed.
Day 08 – Waterton Lakes and the surrounding area
We took the drone up the road to give it a little air time. While there, I got a couple of cool shots that were just begging for a little punch in the colors and contrast.
Since the beginning of trip planning, I have been declaring that I will have Tim Hortons’ “Timbits” while on this trip. Turns out, there is one not too far from us. So, we headed there for a late lunch and some treats. While there, we hit a grocery co-op; who knew iced tea didn’t exist in Canada? We thought of a lot of things, but that one never occurred to us. The drive was another “domestic Ireland” look of the countryside, so it was a very beautiful lunch date errand.
Oh, and the rig is fine. She just needed some time, apparently.
Day 09 – Calgary, briefly
We needed a quick stop on our way to Banff. We also needed a town with a grocery store. Calgary did not disappoint. I got to go to my first Canadian Tire…and it was even more impressive than I expected. We got some stuff for the rig, like more leveling blocks for all these wonky sites, thus ensuring all the rest of our sites will be level! The weird thing is that we can’t find tea (iced) of any kind. We like the cold-brew bag best, but we can’t find normal black tea for iced tea. It wouldn’t be weird except that the sell bottled tea by the registers.
