Day 04 – East Glacier
We awoke to snowfall. It’s too warm to stick to much, but it’s also too chilly and cloudy to do much.
We all decided to have lunch and then head to the visitor’s center where the Blackfeet are featured in the education area.
The Going to the Sun Road was only open for 13 miles of the east half. But y’all, we saw a Mama and Baby Grizzly Bear!
We came back to “town”, had some snacks and drinks, and then drove up to the next entrance: Many Glaciers. The clouds were just starting to part and gave us some great moments.
Day 05 – West Glacier
We awoke to gorgeous blue skies and the views we had expected all along. We headed south to East Glacier Park, in the southeast corner of the park. We then moved on to West Glacier, which is the other end of the Going to the Sun Road. On that side, we got to see 22 miles, so we saw all of the road that was accessible. I was quite pleased since we say far more of the park than I expected we would.
Day 06 – Browning MT to Waterton Park AB CN
Shortest drive of the whole trip!
The border crossing was quick and easy despite a very grumpy border agent working the kiosk. We hope his day got better.
We stopped at a view spot to kill some time so we would not be too early to check in.
“Shit! Her name is Alberta. She lives in Vancouver.”
Rod, (the closeted gay “Bert” puppet) from Avenue Q
In a flash, we were at the campground. We were still a tad bit early, but we were third/fourth in line. Half an hour later, the four rigs in line were checked in. What is it with these long checkins when you have a reservation and have already done all the paperwork? That was far from the biggest problem, however. Getting into our spots was like a game of Tetris. None of us really fit. It’s good we are together and can coordinate our ins and outs. Vehicles are parked on the grass. Furthermore, the place isn’t full. There are plenty of big spots with tiny rigs, so they easily could have shifted people into spots that fit. Oh, and our site isn’t remotely level.
After we settled in, we all went for a fancy (huge!) dinner at a gorgeous restaurant inside the Waterton Lakes National Park. There is a whole town in there. (It’s wildly different than US National Parks.) We had steaks, the fluffiest garlic mashed potatoes to ever grace this planet, veggies, massive desserts, and wine. After dinner, we waddled around for a bit. When we got back to the rig, I simply crashed.
Gorgeous pictures!!!!
It’s impossible to get bad pics of these places. Just impossible. 🙂
